If you paid a deposit through BookYogaRetreats or BookYogaTeacherTraining and have just read about the Tripaneer bankruptcy, take a breath first. It is a stressful thing to find out, and you are far from the only one. We wrote this as a friendly, plain-English guide to what has happened, what you can do, and how YogaFX may be able to turn a verified deposit into full credit toward an eligible course in Bali.
We are not lawyers, and nobody can promise you a refund. What we can do is share what the public record shows, point you to sensible next steps, and tell you honestly what we can offer. Everything here is as of 5 October 2026.
The short version
- Tripaneer B.V., a Dutch company, is in bankruptcy and a trustee has been appointed.
- If your receipt came from BookYogaRetreats or BookYogaTeacherTraining, your deposit went to Tripaneer.
- Nobody can say yet whether deposits for future bookings will be repaid.
- BookRetreats says it is a separate company and not part of this.
- YogaFX may be able to credit a verified deposit in full toward an eligible Bali course. It is a course credit, not a cash refund.
What exactly happened
The court record on ClaimsAgent lists Tripaneer B.V. of Amsterdam under file F.13/26/306. It shows a trustee, a bankruptcy judgment dated 30 September 2026, and a creditors' meeting on 9 December 2026 at 10:30. BookRetreats, another company, gives 1 October 2026 as the date in its own write-up. Do not let the one-day difference worry you. Both dates point to the same event.
On its about page, Tripaneer lists the brands it ran, including BookYogaRetreats and BookYogaTeacherTraining. So if one of those names is on your booking email, this is the bankruptcy that affects you.
Where did my deposit go
According to BookRetreats' summary of how Tripaneer worked, you paid a deposit to Tripaneer and the rest directly to the host. Tripaneer then sent the deposit on to the host, minus its commission, a day or two after you arrived. If your trip or training had not happened yet, your deposit was probably still with Tripaneer when it collapsed.
That is also why your host may not be able to help with the money. They may never have received it. Try not to be angry with them, because many are in the same boat. They are often owed money too.
Is BookRetreats part of this
The names look alike, so this question comes up constantly. BookRetreats says it is independent of Tripaneer and BookYogaRetreats. You can read its position in its guide for retreat hosts. Look at the logo and the sender address on your confirmation. If it says BookRetreats, talk to BookRetreats and your host rather than the Tripaneer trustee.
What we would do in your place
Here is the order we would follow if it were our own money. It takes about an hour in total.
- Gather the booking email, receipt and proof of payment into one folder.
- Message your host and ask whether the booking is still on and whether they received anything.
- Contact your bank or card provider and ask what dispute options exist and how long you have.
- Look at your travel insurance for anything about supplier failure or insolvency.
- Read the claim details on the ClaimsAgent page and decide if you want to register a claim. It is free.
- Email us your documents if you would like us to look at a credit.
One more friendly warning: if someone offers to get your money back for a fee, be careful. The official claim route costs nothing. For a wider overview of the situation, you can also read the updated guide for Tripaneer deposit payers.
How YogaFX may be able to help
YogaFX may be able to give you full credit for the verified deposit you paid, put toward the next available eligible YogaFX Yoga Teacher Training course in Bali. We start by looking at your booking confirmation and proof of payment. If it checks out, we write to you with the amount, course, dates, remaining balance and any conditions, and you decide whether to go ahead.
To keep expectations realistic, this is a course credit rather than cash, it does not mean Tripaneer has paid us, and every request is reviewed on its own merits, so we cannot promise approval in advance. If you later receive a refund from your bank, insurer or the trustee, please let us know so we do not count the same money twice.
How the maths works
| Item | Illustrative amount |
|---|---|
| Verified deposit | USD 300 |
| Eligible course price | USD 2,000 |
| Full credit applied | USD 300 |
| Remaining balance | USD 1,700 |
These are example numbers only, not a quote. Real prices and availability depend on the course and date.
What you would be signing up for
Our main programme blends online preparation at home with a 6-day intensive in Seminyak, Bali, with no more than 19 students. Graduates receive Yoga Alliance RYT 200 and Bikram Hot 26&2 certification. The next MasterClass runs from 24 to 29 January 2027. YogaFX is a Yoga Alliance Registered Yoga School, and you can see its public profile yourself.
If you want to explore first, start with the teacher training overview, check the course dates and course location, browse the FAQs, or read what graduates say on the 5 star reviews page. There is also a free complementary preview of our pre-course lectures and an online option if you prefer to study from home.
A small but important honesty note: finishing the course and registering as a teacher with Yoga Alliance are different steps. We would explain the current completion requirements and registration pathway before you commit.
Meet the person who leads it
YogaFX was founded by Mr. Ian Terry, E-RYT 500. He has more than 12,000 teaching hours, has trained over 1,500 graduates from more than 80 countries, and studied directly with Bikram Choudhury at five training events between 2012 and 2019. In June 2026 his appointment as Master Trainer of the Republic of Indonesia Yogasana Sports Federation was confirmed. You can read more on the our teacher page.
Questions people ask us first
Do I have to decide right away
No. Contacting us commits you to nothing. Many people wait to hear from their bank or insurer first, which is perfectly sensible. If you have a particular course date in mind, mention it so we can check availability early.
What if I booked something other than teacher training
Tell us what you booked. A holiday retreat and a teacher training are different products, and we would rather be honest about whether a credit fits than raise your hopes. We will not push you into a course that is not right for you.
What if I cannot find my receipt
Send whatever you have. A bank or card statement showing the payment, plus any email from the booking platform, is often enough to get started. We would rather help you piece it together than have you give up.
Is there any pressure
None. We will give you a written summary of what we can offer, and you can take your time. If a credit is not possible, we will say so clearly.
How a Dutch bankruptcy works in plain words
In a Dutch bankruptcy, a court appoints a trustee, called a curator, who takes charge of the company's affairs. The trustee collects what the company owns, reviews what it owes, and in time shares out whatever is available among creditors according to legal priority. Customers who paid deposits for services not yet delivered are generally unsecured creditors, which usually places them behind other claims.
That is why nobody can honestly promise you a repayment. It does not mean a claim is pointless. It means any money back from the process is best treated as a possible bonus rather than a plan. Bankruptcies often take months or longer, and the creditors' meeting on 9 December 2026 is a first milestone, not a final answer. If your training date is sooner than that, it makes sense to decide what you want to do now.
What the written confirmation should say
Before you commit to anything, from us or from anyone else, ask for the key terms in writing. For a credit, these are the points we would set out for you.
- The credit amount and its currency.
- The course name, the start date and the end date.
- The remaining balance and the date it is due.
- The rules for changing dates if your plans move.
- How we would treat any refund you receive from a third party later.
If one of these is unclear, ask. A clear written offer protects you as much as it protects us.
How long does a review take
It depends on how complete your documents are and how many enquiries are waiting. A message that includes the booking confirmation, the proof of payment and your preferred dates is the quickest to deal with. If we need more detail, that is normal and not a refusal. If your preferred intake is close, say so in your first email and we will look at that one first.
Why we are doing this
You made a plan in good faith, and the failure of a platform in another country is not something you could have prevented. We cannot change the Dutch proceedings. What we can do is look at each person honestly and, where the documents allow it, offer a way to keep your plan alive without paying twice. Where we cannot, we will say so clearly and try to point you somewhere useful.
A thought on booking direct
When you next book any training, it can be worth asking the school directly where your deposit is held and what the cancellation terms are. Direct bookings can sometimes cost less than a marketplace listing, and a difference of up to approximately 20 percent is a fair thing to ask about. That is a question, not a promise. If a USD 2,000 course were 20 percent lower, you would pay USD 1,600, but only a written quote counts.

FAQ
What should I do if I paid a Tripaneer deposit?
Collect your confirmation and payment proof, ask your bank about dispute options, check your insurance, and write to your host. You can also email YogaFX, which may be able to credit a verified deposit toward an eligible course in Bali, confirmed in writing.
Will I get my money back from Tripaneer?
Nobody can promise that yet. A trustee is handling the bankruptcy and has reportedly said claims for bookings not yet taken cannot currently be paid. Registering a claim is free, but it does not guarantee repayment or timing.
What is the YogaFX deposit credit?
It is a possible reduction in the price of an eligible YogaFX course in Bali, equal to your verified deposit. It is not a cash refund. We review each request individually and confirm the amount, dates and balance in writing.
Does the Tripaneer bankruptcy affect BookRetreats?
BookRetreats says it is independent of Tripaneer and BookYogaRetreats. If your confirmation names BookRetreats, speak to that platform and your host about your booking, rather than treating it as part of the Tripaneer bankruptcy.
What does YogaFX need to review my deposit?
Send the platform name, booking confirmation, receipt, deposit amount and currency, payment date, original course details and preferred dates. Please also tell us about any refund you have received or requested elsewhere.
This guide is general information, not legal or financial advice, and it may change as the trustee shares more detail. Please speak to a qualified adviser about your own situation.
